Set in the mid-1890s in Lambeth, south London, adventures of the new cut gang follow 6 street urchins; Sharky bob, Benny, Thunderbolt, Bridie and the Peretti twins. The book itself hosts two stories; Thunderbolts waxwork and the gas fitters ball.
In the mini story Thunderbolts waxwork the new cut gang must discover the mystery behind the counterfeit coins spreading round the Lambeth and neighbouring areas which is baffling Adults and shopkeepers alike.
In The gas fitters ball the new cut gang now have the challenge of identifying the thief who stole more than £10,000 pounds worth of silver from the gas fitters while following the seemingly hilarious love affair between Dick and Daisy whose antics keep the plot lively and very funny. I recommend this book for children to teenagers alike. The plot is brilliant for those who love adventure and mystery shrouded in funny moments which keep the readers on the edge of their seat. The book itself will provide hours of reading time and a long but certainly not boring plot with the simple vocabulary which allows a child to understand but with the mystery which will make even adults want to read it! This book would be for all reading levels for even though I am a higher level reader I still found this book thrilling and enchanted- Rest assured the rest of this authors books house the same quality!
The only slight Improvement that I could suggest would be that the plot in places is slightly predictable but putting this down to target age I would rate this book a 4.5 out of 5 stars. Totally worth the read.
