This series of 17 books are a good read for anyone that enjoys long, intricate stories that are twisted between lots of smaller ones. In simpler terms a giant sub plot. Set in Ancient Rome the books use real historical facts and refers to many of the old gods , goddesses, and their relative myths, they don’t appear however. As the books go on you experience the main characters, Flavia, Nubia and Lupus grow up and experience different things as the world they grow up in is rapidly changing.
Characters are slowly introduced and all play a massive role in the story. If you are going to read all 17 in one sitting I would recommend bringing a pad and paper to record any major occurrences. The main character, Flavia, has very modern views and is out of place in her time. Every book has a moral. The last book is a bit of a jump ,however, It fits in quite well after about halfway.
