The Adventures Of Tom Sawyer review

The adventures of Tom Sawyer, Mark Twain
A charming, amusing but gripping book exploring the life of the mischievous Tom Sawyer and his best friend Huck Finn. The reader is taken on a journey with these two boys and faces the challenges with them while witnessing them grow and learn.
Tom can never seem to stay out of trouble, he is always doing something out of line- this is reflected through his choice of best friend Huck Finn- the town outcast. This duo find themselves facing impossible challenges but somehow always overcoming them.
With every problem solved us, as readers, witness Tom and Huck grow and mature and really get to know and love the boys and their friends throughout this novel when we see them begin their journey into adulthood after they witness a terrible crime.
I did, however feel that the book was very slow to start with and the language at times was grueling and difficult to understand due to the difference between the time it was written and the time in which I read it.
The adventures of Tom Sawyer is charming, moving, and gripping but sometimes dark and a true joy to read. I would definitely recommend it as Tom and Huck are very relatable characters and can open the readers’ eyes the importance of friendship, community and family.

  1. I had a similar reaction - there were bits I didn't enjoy as much and others that I thought showed clearly why this is a true classic.
